‘Bara Imambara’ is an Urdu word, where Bara means big and Imambara means the shrine complex. Moreover, it is the largest buildings in Lucknow.
The shrine houses the Asfi mosque which has the tomb of Asaf-ud-daula. Also, the labyrinth is the only maze in India which supports the massive structure of the whole complex from the underground.
Similarly, Chota Imambara is also an Urdu word where chota means small and Imambara means the shrine complex.
Located just 1.5 kms west of Bara Imambara, chota imambara is also a tomb of a Nawab buried alongside his mother.

This place is considered as a national monument and is a major site of the Revolt of 1857 and the historic battle known as the Siege of Lucknow.
